The Accident Scene

As a man walked up to the scene, the first thing that he noticed was a small, pocket-sized Bible lying in the snow next to an injured man.  The injured man’s company ID tag read, “Ken” (http://lonsberry.com/writings.cfm?story=3027&go=4).

It was December 14, 2010, and Ken Parfitt had gotten up that morning, as usual, at 5:30 AM to pray for 30 minutes.  After that, while he was fixing breakfast, his wife Jamie began to read part of his daily Bible-reading schedule to him.  They ate, talked over future plans, and then it was time to leave for work—but not before an exchange of, I Love You, and a goodbye kiss.

Black Ice

It was snowy that morning, and their oldest son went with Ken to work.  On their way there, a truck next to them lost control on black ice, and plunged down over the bank.  Ken pulled over on the shoulder, and he and his son went down the bank to help the man.  When they came back up, Ken was about to get into his car, when another car lost control on the ice, and hit him.

What could happen to you? “For what is your life?  It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (Holy Bible, James 4:14b). “PREPARE to MEET thy GOD” (Holy Bible, Amos 4:12b).  Ken gave his life to help one in need.  Someone also did that for you.

The Good Samaritan

That is what some people called Ken in Rochester, New York.  He often set aside his own plans to help others in need.  The Bible says, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches” (Proverbs 22:1).

Ken and his sons were building their own house, but it had taken a long time.  They had just gotten their Occupancy Permit shortly before the accident.  Ken had told his wife, “I will not let this house own me.  I want to always be available to serve the Lord when He needs me.”  The Bible says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21).  Many good construction days were missed, because Ken was either helping in public ministry with their church, or he was helping others with their houses, cars, appliances, or moving.  The Bible says, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it” (Proverbs 3:27).

The Secret Of His Life

The secret of Ken’s life was found in that little black Book, the Bible, that was now lying in the snow beside him.

In Ken’s life, the Bible was not hidden.  He shared his faith and lived it.  “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed” (Romans 10:11).  Ken’s employer dedicated a new Test Engineering Lab to his memory, stating, in part, “He lived his life in humble service to God, consistently making time to help those in need around him.”

In Ken’s death, God also made sure that the Bible was not hidden, but providentially had it land by his side.

You better not die without knowing

what the Bible says, and obeying it.

The Bible says that we have all broken God’s Laws.  “For ALL have SINNED, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  We have all lied, lusted, coveted, been prideful, selfish, etc.

The Bible tells us the penalty: “For the WAGES of SIN is DEATH” (Romans 6:23a).  That death is more than just physical death.  “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was CAST into the LAKE of FIRE” (Revelation 20:14-15).  You will spend eternity there, if you do not get your sins forgiven.

The Bible says that God loves us, and does not want us to go to the lake of fire.  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).    Not just anyone could have paid for our sins.

The Need For Special Blood

Ken’s blood was a rare type, O-negative.  It is called the universal blood donor, because it can be given to anyone in need, despite their blood type.  Ken had donated much of it to help others.  As Ken was taken out of the ambulance at the hospital, gospel tracts stained with his blood fell out of his pocket.

There would be no gospel, no good news, without blood—the blood of Jesus.  He died on the cross to save us from the penalty of our sin, and then He arose from the grave.  Jesus is the Son of God, God in the flesh, born of a miraculous virgin birth, giving Him a totally unique blood type—pure and sinless.  Jesus’ perfect blood is also universal—it can be applied to ANY SOUL UPON EARTH who will repent and receive Him as Savior.  “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).  “REPENT ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19a).  “The BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST his Son CLEANSETH US from ALL SIN” (1 John 1:7b).  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of GOD:  NOT of WORKS, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).  “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).

“Dear Lord Jesus, I do believe that you are the Son of God; that you are God Almighty in the flesh, the Creator of heaven and earth.  I do believe that you are the only Savior; that you died on the cross for me, and gave your precious blood to pay my sin debt; and then you arose from the grave the third day.  I do now repent of my sins, and receive you as my Savior.  Please forgive me, and save my soul.  Please raise up my life from sin and shame, and use it now for your glory.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to save me, and I desire to now live for Him.
