In
the creation of earth, it says that there was light on the first day. How was there
light if the sun did not exist until the 4th day
God commanded there to be LIGHT on the FIRST DAY —
and there was LIGHT. Genesis 1:1-5 says, "1 In the beginning God created the
heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God
said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the
darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."
It is TRUE that GOD did NOT CREATE the SUN until the FOURTH DAY. Genesis
1:14-19 says, "14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to
divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days,
and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon
the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the
day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them
in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day
and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was
good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day."
Is this a CONTRADICTION in the BIBLE? NO, because, GOD HIMSELF is LIGHT.
1 John 1:5 says, "This then is the message which we have heard of him,
and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."
If there were NO OTHER SOURCES of LIGHT available, that would NOT make any DIFFERENCE
— because GOD is LIGHT. John 1:1-9 says, "1 In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning
with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was
made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in
darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose
name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men
through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that
Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the
world."
There is NO LIGHT upon EARTH that begins to
COMPARE with the BRIGHTNESS of the LIGHT around GOD. 1 Timothy 6:15-16 says,
"15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King
of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no
man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power
everlasting. Amen."
We see an EXAMPLE of what that LIGHT can do to MAN. Acts 9:1-9 says, "1
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord,
went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues,
that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them
bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there
shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice
saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against
the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?
And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what
thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice,
but seeing no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw
no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three
days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink."
SAUL testified that the LIGHT of GOD is MUCH BRIGHTER than
the LIGHT of the SUN. Acts 26:12-15 says, "12 Whereupon as I went to
Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw
in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me
and them which journeyed with me. 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a
voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou
me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And
he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest."
We read that when GOD creates a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH, He is NOT going to create a
“NEW SUN.” Revelation 21:1-5 says, "1 And I saw a new heaven
and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was
no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and
they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God
shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed
away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said
unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful." Revelation
21:21-23 says, "21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of
one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22 And
I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of
God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof."
The SUN is JUST ONE source of LIGHT that GOD has made. Just think of the
BILLIONS and BILLIONS of STARS in SPACE — all emitting LIGHT. Consider
also how the Lord uses ONE LIGHT SOURCE (the sun), and uses another LIGHT-COLORED BODY
(the moon), to REFLECT that LIGHT and make it light enough to see and walk around at NIGHT
when there is a FULL MOON. Genesis 1:16-18 says, "16 And God made two
great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:
he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light
upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light
from the darkness: and God saw that it was good."
That REMINDS us of OUR JOB here upon earth. The DAYS are very DARK, because of
SIN. We are to BE LIKE MOSES, in that, after SPENDING TIME with the LORD, he
GLOWED with the LIGHT of GOD. Exodus 34:27-35 says, "27 And the LORD said
unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a
covenant with thee and with Israel. 28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty
nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words
of the covenant, the ten commandments. 29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from
mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the
mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 30
And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face
shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and
all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. 32 And
afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that
the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And till Moses had done speaking with
them, he put a vail on his face. 34 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with
him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children
of Israel that which he was commanded. 35 And the children of Israel saw the face of
Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again,
until he went in to speak with him."
We are to reflect the glory and light of God in this sin-darkened earth. Matthew
5:13-16 says, "13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and
to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on
an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on
a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so
shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in
heaven."
