q.gif (1639 bytes)  Are demons fallen angels?  Were the demons Jesus cast out of people fallen angels?

a.gif (1659 bytes)   We know that God created everything “good,” so that would include all angels. Genesis 1:31 says, “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

We know that Satan is a fallen cherub angel. Isaiah 14:12-15 says, “12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Ezekiel 28:12-17 describes the evil power behind an evil king, and that one is Satan. Those verses say, “12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.” A cherub is seen by Ezekiel, and he describes it in chapters 1 and 10.

We know that some angels followed Satan in his rebellion against God, because Jesus refers to “the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41 says, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” And, yes, those would be the “demons” (referred to as “devils” in the New Testament), which were cast out of people. Luke 8:28-33 says, “28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.”

What is even more deceiving today are the demons that are parading as “religious” people.   2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says, “13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

Beware of the Charismatic Movement, which is a good example of this. Parading as “ministers of righteousness,” they do things that cause people to convulse; to shake uncontrollably; and to be knocked down on the floor, unable to get up or even speak. That is not the work of God, but the work of the devil. Jesus caused the lame to GET UP and the dumb to SPEAK — not like the Charismatics who cause people to be constrained like demon-possessed people in the New Testament. Notice what Jesus says will happen in Matthew 7:21-23: “21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Anyone who questions Charismatics with Scripture is told, “You need to think outside of the box!” “You need to leave your doctrine at the door and let go!” Beware of them, because the issue has nothing to do with a “box,” but everything to do with the “Book,” the Holy Bible. Acts 17:11 says, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
