Subject: Evil Spirits

q.gif (1639 bytes)   Do evil spirits have power?

a.gif (1659 bytes)   Evil spirits are fallen angels (we normally call them “demons”), and they have great power, in comparison to man.

2 Peter 2:11 says, “Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.”

Psalm 103:20 says, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”

Acts 19:15-16 says, “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?  And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.”

Luke 8:27-29 says, “And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.  When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.  (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)”

We should only rebuke the devil and the demons in the Lord’s name, not in our own feeble power.  Jude 9 says, “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

Satan and the demons could easily do to us, what Satan wanted to do to Peter, if it were not for the Lord’s protection over us.  Luke 22:31-32 says, “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:  But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”

So each day we need to start out humbly and in prayer and Bible-reading, submitting ourselves to God.  Matthew 26:41 says, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

James 4:6-8 says, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
